The UCF Libraries' LibTech department is a cornerstone of student support, offering over 6,200 items including 680 laptops for loan. With options ranging from short-term to semester-long lending, this program provides students access to the tools they need for academic success. As demand continues to grow, so does the library’s commitment to meeting these needs, thanks to innovative partnerships and resourceful funding strategies.
A significant portion of these laptops are funded by the technology fees allocated directly to the Libraries. This funding allows the library to maintain and expand its fleet, ensuring that the largest number of students can benefit. The laptops funded by tech fees form the backbone of the program, providing reliable and up-to-date technology for daily and long-term use.
In addition to these tech-fee-funded laptops, the LibTech program has recently received 138 units from UCF IT’s Tech Commons Student Support Desk. This consolidation effort has allowed for a more centralized lending process, making it easier for students to access the technology they need on campus.
This semester marks a new chapter in the program’s growth, as LibTech works to expand their Semester Loan Laptop fleet. UCF IT support zones are contributing an influx of pre-owned yet viable laptops that would have otherwise been sent to surplus. This initiative between the UCF Libraries and UCF IT exemplifies how organizational collaboration can directly benefit students. By repurposing these laptops, the program not only expands its offerings but also demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and resource efficiency. This partnership is a testament to the power of partnership, ensuring that every Knight has the tools they need to thrive.
